Parallel Operation of Motor Driven Pump with Steam Driven Pump

07/15/2012 9:07 AM

In a Expansion project , a new pump to be added with existing Pumps.

Existing Pumps: Screw Type , 1 Working( Steam Turbine driven) 1 stand by(Motor Driven)

New Pump: Screw Type Parallel working with existing pump, Motor Driven.

Qustion: A)1n 1working +1 stand by case, Motor driven is usually working and steam turbine driven is stand by. Is it possible ? ot it is a mistake in Datasheet

B)2 pumps working in parallel one with motor driven and another with Steam Turbine

Driven , is it possible?

C)A note is given in datasheet "Rate performance in existing rotary positive displacement pumps G-9002 & 9002S with turbineand motor respectively. Provide new G-9002C equivalent capacity with turbine drive."

What is the meaning of sentence "Provide new G-9002C equivalent capacity with turbine drive."

Answers :

A Motor Driven Normally -Steam Driven when Motor is at fault-OK

B Possible at double( Or close to) output- if Output side can take the higher flow throughput at combined higher Q-H

C Asks you TO plot your own system curve with both pumps running onto YOUR load

"----ALONGWITH turbine drive"

mm

A) It is quite possible for a turbine driven pump to be main, depending on the availability of excess steam from steam balance, or criticality of the process service or due to the unreliable elctric power supply.

B) It is quite possible without any difficulty, with proper control of ST governor.

C) It means that the new pump (G-9002C motor driven) shall be procured to match the exact verified current capacity of the turbine driven pump now under operation. (possibly to account for the loss in Volumetric efficiency of the working pump intended to work in parallel with the new motor driven pump)

Hope this helps,

A simple suggestion.. put NRV in the both pump discharge.. as u said parallel operation & expansion project it is very simple..
