Could you post a photo / sketch?

Does it have a submersible electic motor? If yes, could be a borehole pump.

Here is the closest info I could find with a quick search http://www.irtools.com/IS/modelComp.asp/item/3845

Basicaly you have an 1 inch air actuated diaphram pump manufactured by a division of Ingersolll Rand. Check out these manuals found at the IR web site. http://www.irtools.com/techpubs/index.cfm?fuseaction=view.main&type=Fluid%20Technologies&cat=144&sub=704

Almost anything designated "ground pump" will always be a diaphragm. They don't need to be primed, and are not damaged from running dry. Since ground water tables rise and fall, they work great in cisterns and French drains to keep work sites dry during construction.

For example, building an in-ground pool. If you hit a ground water source, you're pretty much hosed (no pun intended). If you have a diaphragm pump, you can over dig the hole by about a foot in depth and backfill it with stone. Lay a perforated pipe in the hole under the stone and run it to the diaphragm pump to keep the hole dry. The pump will run 24/7 till the pool is completed.

Any situation where loss of prime is a concern, or excessive head is needed are ideal for diaphragm pumps. They are usually quiet, although not very energy efficient.
