First pic. Neutral is not shown as connected... BUT... generally in reality it's connected to ground (somewhere) and youwill have a circuit and light.
Second pic. Battery negative is not connected to anything that we can see, therefore no circuit, no light. However if this in in a car the battery negative may be connected to chassis which is the vehicle ground and you would have a circuit.

To sumarise, the diagrams are pretty much incomplete, confusing and meaningless.

If you connect a DC supply to chassis of car, don't you think it will lead to corrosion of car chassis?

You may have a point here. If we remove the lead acid batteries from all cars there will be no sulphuric acid to cause corrosion and the other common causes of corrosion like road salt and paint pitting from stone bruises won't happen because the cars will never move. Unfortunately though this idea is doomed to be ignored because people normally buy their cars so they can move.

It's standard practice (slaps furry head with paw)... as is driving in the rain.

If you plug my car into a DC mains supply, then I will sue you for repairs to the damage and the inconvenience to my time. After all, I have police work to do.

What Del said.

Plus, you've got all the light coming out of only one side of the glowthing.

How'd you do that?

When dc is applied bulb will glow continuously but when ac is applied as it crosses zero in every cycle, the lights will flicker but our eyes don't see the flicker because the filament remains hot and in a second it crosses 50 times. For academic purposes we can try giving ac to the bulb via a half wave rectifier.
