	our generator 325MW, 20kV tripped on actuation of rotor earth fault protection relay UNS 3020a-Z, Var. 1/2, make ABB can any one tell me the reason

	It is quit clear that there is a earth fault on the rotor winding or earth fault relay problem. First try to trace one by one without being panic.

	If the generator has tripped on actuation of rotor earth fault protection relay,the reason is supposed to be the occurence of rotor earth fault in the generator.Where is the doubt ? In case you apprehend a mal-function,then you have to take up with the vendor/ABB for proper analysis of the matter based on the pre-trip & post -trip parameters available with you. __________________ Learning is a never-ending process.

	As already written by others, rotor earth fault is the reason. If you have doubt measure insulation resistance of rotor winding and get the same confirmed. If IR is OK in stand still condition, run the set after re-setting the relay and when circuit trips at certain speed, measure IR under that condition. If IR is still OK, contact relay supplier.
