LPG Gas Seamless Steel Pipe - Corrosion Factor

07/30/2012 7:30 AM

I have new project for installing Liquified Peroleum Gas (LPG) piping. The pipnig system is 3/4" SCH-40 SEAMLESS STEEL PIPE (ASTM A106). I have a request from the consultant to provide them with the corrosion factor for the specified pipe if the fluid is LPG. Could you please help me to provide information about piping corrosion factor if the working material is LPG.

Refer to previous project data, as there is no need to reinvent the proverbial wheel.

Ask the pipe supplier for the information, surly they would know.

As PWSlack says, why reinvent the wheel.

In my opinion ,the type of pipe you have chosen ,and what you are expecting ,will not satisfy you.Instead of steel , why didnt you use copper, preferably harddrone copper.I say so because it has a higher resistence to corrosion and durable.

Are they asking for corrosion rate or corrosion allowance?

To get the corrosion rate you might have to get a corrosion handbook (I think there's one for metals and one for nonmetals) or contact NACE. Corrosion rate is not something that's easy to get.
