Can You Run a Car on Water????

08/07/2012 8:01 AM

There is a considerable skepticism about a Pakistani layman having invented a car which runs on water! It has made a big news elsewhere as well as evidenced by the following news published by the NYT. You expert views and comments are solicited.

Thanks

PS: personally I think the said claim is a hoax and a technically unsound claim. Many think so too.ut the question is that why the advanced nations haven't adopted to this technique yet rather than fight over oil resources??? Let's see how you evaluate this claim and its implications on the future of automotive fuels.

Craving Energy and Glory, Pakistan Revels in Boast of Water-Run Car

By DECLAN WALSH Published: August 4, 2012

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - In a nation thirsting for energy, he loomed like a messiah: a small-town engineer who claimed he could run a car on water.

The assertion - based on the premise that he had discovered a way to easily split the oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water molecules with almost no energy - would, if proven, represent a stunning breakthrough for physics and a near-magical solution to Pakistan's desperate power crisis.

"By the grace of Allah, I have managed to make a formula that converts less voltage into more energy," the professed inventor, Agha Waqar Ahmad, said in a telephone interview. "This invention will solve our country's energy crisis and provide jobs to hundreds of thousands of people."

Established scientists have debunked his spectacular claims, first made one month ago, saying they violate ironclad laws of physics. But across Pakistan, where crippling electricity cuts have left millions drenched in the sweat of a powerless summer, and where there is hunger for tales of homegrown glory, the shimmering mirage of a "water car" received a broad and serious embrace.

The assertion - based on the premise that he had discovered a way to easily split the oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water molecules with almost no energy .

<Groan>...
It will take at least as much energy to split them as you will regain when you recombine them.
Even if you use free energy (solar electricity) you will still have to use extra energy to compress the gasses for storage.

Well you can run a car on air too, that doesn't mean it's practical....

I know that but the point here is : whether the water-fuel kit is commercially viable or even if it could be made commercially viable to operate?? That guy in Pakistan has claimed to run a car fitted with his kit for hundreds of miles without any problem. I haven't seen the demonstration or the kit itself --all I watched was on the local tv.

For pities sake...
NO!
It's a hoax, scam, horse feathers, nonsense.
I hate to dissillusion you but...
Not everything on TV is real.

YES it CAN be done, but not economically or practically. It will take more electricity/petrol/whatever to split the water than will be recovered whe the gasses are re-combined in a controlled burn/explosion.
If this wasn't true, then a small spark or similar catalyst would cause the oceans to spontaneously go into a chain reaction of water splitting and recombining produceing greater and geater energies until the whole world went BANG.

Re: Can you run a car on water????

NO! Its true. I did it in my yard ....yesterday. It requires a special plating process on the electrodes to allow the small AA batteries to convert the distilled sewer water into hundreds of cubic feet of hydrogen per min. And the great thing about this system is that as more power is needed you simply need to lower the pressure above the liquid to cause additional hydrogen generation. I have connected the "gas pedal" to a fishing line that lower the plated electrodes into the solution . So far the problem I have is the bouncing over rough roads causes erratic engine speed.

If I'm not mistaken that process was used in Stephen Kings book "The Tommy Knockers. If it's good enough for Mr. King should be good enough for a Pakistani.

Most of what a typical automobile runs on is air..

14 parts air to 1 part gasoline

Yes...yes you can...please, go buy your water-powered car and leave us all in the dust.

If it is at all possible I am sure that you are the technological expert who can make it reality.

<sigh> These pseudoscience designs and hoaxes have been around for a while (almost since the invention of electricity and the internal combustion engine), the short answer is no they don't work and never will due to fundamental laws of science which they supposedly break.

Water electrolysis-powered internal combustion engines and designs have been explained exhaustively on CR4 by myself and others (try the forum search function for plenty of PAGES of facts and information).

Okay, then why did the 'able folks' at NYT make a headline of the news if they understood basic science and had commonsense???

Don't get me started about the media and reporters posting sensationalist stories without bothering to research the facts first, then never posting a clarification when it is found that they were wrong.

This car runs on water scam has been around for quite some time and resurfaces on the internet and gets reported by the media (and then disproven) every few years. The media reports it for a good sound bite and then nothing hapens. The discovery is then shown to be a scam (which the media don't bother reporting because it doesn't make for good television or radio) and people forget about it until the next time.

Try a search on the internet for car running on water (over 470 million hits) to see just how far back this scam goes.

Apparently you haven't paid attention to the many CR4 discussions about this. In any event, you haven't learned anything.

"But across Pakistan, where crippling electricity cuts have left millions drenched in the sweat of a powerless summer, and where there is hunger for tales of homegrown glory, the shimmering mirage of a "water car" received a broad and serious embrace."

Of course they have embraced this. This is hope for the hopeless, and the hopeless are being shot like fish in a barrel. As previously pointed out, nothing but a scam, WALOOB, baloney.

Oh, No! It is hope that a Pakistani layman is purported to have done to bring his people 'hope'. It may be a scam but such scams and more are not only restricted to ''hopeless'' people as they seem to provide hope in future. May sound like science fiction but some of HG Well's . fa ntasies have almost realized.....

Sounds like the guy with the motorbike and the garden hose. His secondary tank was under his seat and sealed off from the main tank. He would ride into a busy gas station and fill his upper tank with water from a hose, start the bike up and drive away. The looks on peoples faces were precious.

You asked us for "You expert views and comments are solicited", then you debate every comment offered as if you are an advocate of this scam.

IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!

IT DIDN'T WORK LAST YEAR; IT WON'T WORK NEXT YEAR!!

Do some independent research on Brown's gas or HHO.
