Standard For Re-Inforcement on Pressure Vessels

08/22/2012 6:56 AM

I am looking for the standard which details the size of re-inforcement pads for different openings on pressure vessels.

clperera,

Because you submitted this question it is clear that you are not qualified to be working in pressure vessel engineering and design.

You need to let go of the mouse, step away from the computer, pick up the phone and call an employment agency (Monster.com). Ask them to find you a properly educated, trained and experienced pressure vessel engineer. One who can do the job you want in a very short time, do it right and thus keep you from making a mistake that could get someone killed.

Fundamentally, I agree with the advice of PennPiper.....

The proper design of nozzle reinforcements on pressure vessels depends on the pressure, temperature, nozzle size and material selection for the nozzle and vessel.

External forces imposed on the nozzle are an additional factor.

Ther can be no chart or look-up table that can handle all of these choices ! !

In the USA, the ASME pressure vessel code ( Section VIII) contains rules for design. It is one code of many that are used internationally.

I am guessing a bit here but, is this your first design assignment ? Is there anyone (other than your many levels of MBA bosses) with any vessel design experience in your organization ?

Come back with more details ! !

Piper, I think you're jumping to conclusions. You don't know OP is the one designing anything. You should check out other posts made by someone before you decide to slam them. OP is just looking for info.

It will depend on your local pressure vessel code. There will be about 5 cross-sectional areas that need to add up to that of the hole in the shell, less surpluses. (That is only a thumbnail description, not sufficient for design.)
