Difference Between Centrifugal and Axial Fans

I want to install the induced draft fan at boiler.Please help to find out that which type of induced draft fan would give better results,either centrifugal or exial.Please also guide that which type has less lean leakage and is more efficient at high fiue gases temperature where the volume of gasses to be exhausted is 1,75,000 cubic metres.Thanks in advance for help and guidance.

A centrifugal fan is the best option because the heat of the flue gasses will only effect the fans blades and not the motor. This means the motor will last a lot longer. The blade assembly can be optimised for the max temperature, and all will be happy.

Well, usually for mechanical rooms they use axial fan because there is no (or not to be) pressure difference in and out of the room, so noise is no matter and it is much cheaper than a centrifugal fan. there are many other reason and ways of selecting axial or centrifugal fan. You could look at the related web to make sure that you have done the best selection.

Because of the volume, I would go with an axial setup that places the motor on a shaft outside of the gas flow. It would look like a 90deg storm water pump but for air. Please use the higher vane solidity type air pumps (not 2 stage), they are more effective and in actual use the power difference isnt measurable.

Yes, I agreed with Axial fan which is drawing more volume then centrifugal type fan. It is slightly bigger though. If size not matter, go for it!

Axial! Any Temp. Any Corrosivity can be handled. Good for huge flowrates.

200,000m3/Hr at total Head 400mm WGauge @2000C available in Catalog.

Motor can be outside-Cool.

Unless things have changed since I designed power generating stations, induced draft fans are always centrifugal. I suggest contacting Buffalo Forge or Foster Wheeler for information.

Centrifugal fan has more positive pressure for the same amout of air flow.

hi there;

we would suggest either a centrifugal or radial blade setup /

a need to keep the bearings, belts ,etc out of the heat /

radilal blade is self cleaning / forward curve is not /

most draft inducers for small furnaces are radial , though not

with the intake in the center / more as a paddle fan to help push
the gases along /
