Heat Recovery Steam Generator Cleaning Method

09/06/2012 2:32 AM

We have BHEL make HRSGs of 125 TPH and 110 kg/cm2 pressure level steam generator. We have facing problem cleaning of HRSG Economizer, Evaporator, Super heater zone thoroughly. We are using Refinery fuel gas as a supplementary fuel with <1% sulphur. When we open bundled of tubes found sulphur deposition. So what method we should adopt to clean the boiler e.g. Water cleaning, Steam cleaning , Air cleaning, Dry ICE blasting

It seems there is a problem with not enough combustion air getting to the fuel. Once the cleaning is complete and the plant is on its way to re-assembly, the combustion route needs to be looked at to make sure there is sufficient-to-slightly-excess air available, because there shouldn't be any sulphur on the tubes in the first place.

Flue gas desulpurisation is a second issue, as these days, obnoxious sulphur emissions into the atmosphere are bad news for the environment as well as personal health and safety.

Something is amiss at that facility, and the sulphur deposits are the indicator.

Steam cleaning followed by air cleaning will help you in getting the system cleaned thoroughly.it is advisable to trace the cause for sulphur deposits.

I have no experience in this field So please excuse my ignorance in this matter but I have a question regarding the environmental protection regulations, I know these will change depending on what country you are in.

What precautions need to be used in the removal of the sulphur deposits to prevent contamination of the local environment, drains & water ways ?

& do these regulations dictate the way in which the deposits are removed so as to be able to be collected & disposed of appropriately?

Have the plant manger take the local environmental inspector out for dinner to talk about how this should be done.

While he is being wined and dined hose the waste straight down the drain.

Night time is preferable.

Well I'm in Australia & having faith in our EPA & people carrying out that type of work here I would hope that doesn't happen, but realistically it probably does happen every where

I'd go for dry ice blasting, if it is an option that somebody there will pony up the money for, for no other reason than it sounds like it could be fun.

(<1% sulphur) > (0% sulphur). Perhaps the deposition is normal and preferable to gaseous sulphur compounds being chimnied into the air.

What does the manual (or original commissioning report) say about it?
