Thumb Rules of Refrigeration?

09/10/2012 12:53 PM

What are the Thumb Rules of Refrigeration?

What is the relationship between Compressor Capacity(TR) and Cooling Surface of Condenser/Chiller?

What is the relation between Compressor Capacity(TR) and Motor HP/KW?

How the sizing is done?

None of the above.

Try a new multiple-choice test.

Compressor Capacity(TR) and Cooling Surface of Condenser/Chiller?

Uday, first of all compressor capacity is not TR. Also Compressor Capacity can not be compared with Cooling Surface which is area.

Here I want to explain very simple fundamentals. Divide the cooling capacity of chiller expressed in kcal/hr by 3000 to get TR. Now about the relationship among terms in your question is as follows:

Cooling capacity of condenser = Cooling capacity of chiller + compressor power (in heat units)

Above relationship can be easily verifiable in PH diagram (no thumb rule). Also a very important performance parameter (COP) is derived from the two terms on RHS.

COP = Cooling capacity of chiller / compressor power (in heat units)
