One of the ways is to follow British Standard 7671.

In CR4 there is no discussion for Neutral earth strip calculation.

The discussions what they did is only for body earthing strip calculations.

For 500kVA Transformer, the recommended Earth Strip Size for Neutral Earthing is:

i) 25mm x 6mm Bare Copper Strip

or

ii) 300 sq.mm PVC Insulated Aluminium Conductor

or

iii) 50mm x 6mm GI Strip

The Standard IS 3043 does not differentiate between a neutral earthing conductor and a body earthing conductor. As per the Standard, the formula for sizing earthing conductors & protective conductors is:

S = I Root 't' / K

where,

S is the cross sectional area of the protective conductor in sq.mm

I is the fault current is Amperes

t is the fault duration in seconds

K is the Adiabatic Constant depending upon the Material of the conductor, method of laying, etc. (given vide Table 6 of IS 3043).

By the by do not refer to IS 3043-1965.

This has been revised in 1987 and amended latest in january 2010.
