On what basis the location/Orientation of Draw off & return nozzles is fixed?

Plant layout and piping considerations, Boss. It's no good designing the thing if you can't get it in and can't get it connected, is it?

This sounds like a student question.

Dont think so. A text book questions is phrased differently.

Sounds like a real problem!

Atul,

If I understand your question correctly, you are indeed asking me how reboiler nozzle locations must be placed on a distillation column.

Joshi is correct. The overall design of a reboiler and column must be considered as a system.

Since you show no circulation pump, I assume that this is a thermally driven reboiler and therefore the nozzle locations are very important.

Because this is your first assignment in this complex area, we wish you the best of luck !

Best Regards

In refinery distillation columns it had a lot to do with the condensation temperature of the various fractions (hence the name "fractional distillation column"). When too many fractions were too similar in condensation temperature the draw off was removed and reheated and sent to a smaller distillation tower to be separated into several different components where a smaller temperature range could be split up between more trays.

You probably really need a Process Engineer to give you a complete more precise answer.

  • There has to be a name, or at least initials, on the drawing from which this was taken. Ask that individual.
  • There has to be a document entitled "Process Description" and another one "Control Philosophy". Find them and read them.
