Annealing of Low Carbon Steels

1. Annealing is not required. Some steel mills may be doing annealing, due customer requirement.

2. Annealing is used to induce ductility, soften material, & relieve internal stresses. If these qualities are required by costumer, then it is done.

Thanks for the prompt inputs Joshi ji.However still Ineed to know 1) Why some customers insist on annealing and others not? 2) In what way annealing effects machining post heat treatment. 3) Do the stresses not released (during annealing) come out and cause micro cracks?

2. Machining finish is homogeneous, fine finishing.

Dear Mr Ankush Jain, Customers order Low Carbon Steel from the Steel mills, specifying the condition supply ie. Hot rolled Bar Or in coil form or Bright Bar as rolled or Annealed depending on the end use. Eg. If it is a machine shop they may order only in Hot rolled condition. If it is required for cold heading to make bolt, nut etc. then they prefer to order in annealed condition. Again as per customer's requirement they may also suppld in normalised condition. Further all the cold forging conpanies do specify annealed condition. very often these companies order hot rolled bars, then do slugging & spherodize anneal before cold forging.
