Static Head Towards Steam Trap

09/28/2012 1:19 PM

Dear All,

How much vertical distance to be kept from outlet nozzle of heat exchanger to trap inlet to avoid the water logging in heat exchanger for easy gravity flow of condensate and what should be velocity considered for gravity flow line sizing towards trap.?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Santosh

The piping should be designed for gravity flow from the heat exchanger to the trap, and a vent from the trap to the vapor space of the exchanger should be installed to prevent vapor logging the trap. The trap manufacturers, Armstrong and SpiraxSarco are just a couple, publish recommended installations.

When your sizing, you have to know what condensate load you have.

Armstrong always had an excellent site.

Nichols should also have one.
