Deer Eating My flowers

09/29/2012 9:01 AM

Does anyone know of a flower that deer don't like?

I have a problem with deer eating My flowers aslo need to get rid of a coon living under a storage shed (don't want to kill it) I'm a humane type of person, just want him/her gone.

A few well-placed Moth Balls or sprinkled flakes will work very well. It has worked here...every night it seems that deer are on my front lawn munching almost everything in sight, and I live in a subdivision!

Deer don't like the smell of a lot of soaps too! "Irish Spring" comes to mind, but you may want to recheck that w/ a Google Search......

I would get a recording of a mountain lion, pair it with a infrared detector and loud speaker....I don't know if it would work, but would be fun to see...

Maybe someday Jeff Meldrum might find antler chips in their droppings, too.

No doubt no doubt! LOL

[They probably use those antlers for toothpicks! hehehehe]

Is it "Squatchy" where you are in AK? I wouldn't doubt it one bit. Certainly is here in eastern NY....When you're out deer hunting in the deep woods and find mangled deer carcasses (w/ both rear legs and neck broken) in the fork of a tree 10-12 feet up, then something big is up.....ain't no bear or coyote that's for sure!

"They" are called bigfoot or sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest, but I haven't heard of "squatchy" before. I doubt their existence, but it would be really cool if I turned out wrong about that. I think all the secondary "evidence" has better alternative hypothetical explanations.

I know I and my buddy Rick heard one in the Adirondack Mountains one night while camping out back in the summer of '76. It's primal scream you do not want to hear twice in your lifetime. Both of us have been hunting since we were wee little guys (w/ Dads) and both of us had never heard any woodlands animal make a racket like that...and it was at least within a 100 yards of our tent! Thank goodness Rick had a loaded .45 1911 (for bear repellant!). Both of us were scared Chitless and couldn't wait until dawn came!!!

Ohhh yeah, they do exist alright....no doubt in my mind.

Anecdotal reports do not constitute scientific evidence until properly replicated, confirmed, etc.

Maybe it was an owl. They are know to make screeches that will make your hair stand up on the back of your necks. But the big foot story sounds a lot more interesting.

The term "Squatchy" is not a noun. It's an adjective used to describe potential "sasquatch" habitat.

As in "...this area feels real "squatchy" to me!"

Actually, "Squatchy" was the original nickname for a character on an old sit-com, whose full name was Author Squachiminski. It rhymed with "Chachi".

However, due to resistance from certain ethnic groups, the last name was changed to Fonzarelli.

One flower that is toxic to deer is the Lupin. Here in Atlantic Canada it is a common wildflower.

Some interesting replies. Nobody seems to be taking you seriously. I farm Red Deer in New Zealand. They do not like daffodils. Good luck

I guess it is an age old question that no one really has an answer to. Daffodils are fine for the spring but I'm looking for an annual that blooms all summer, I've heard that deer don't care for marigolds, maybe I'll try them.

Dusty miller. Not exactly a blooming plant, but white-tailed deer won't eat them. It's the only thing I plant here in NE Pennsylvania.

The link Joshi sent you is great. I know they love to eat hostas so I would stay away from them.
