Is this the same motor that is being used to lift a 66T weight by crane?

No particular relation that I know of; the SF is printed on the motor w/o regard to vertical motion.

Right. Service factor is simply the amount of overload a motor will tolerate, without damage.

I wouldn't operate a pump continuously over the rated SF, but a crane, maybe.

Clearly a pump is more likely to see a consistent load than a crane. So overloading a pump motor will quickly induce a failure. However, the failure of a 66 ton crane can easily be a major catastrophe. A pump failure might also be a catastrophe but the engineer will likely know the type of catastrophe a failure of a pump will induce. accidentally dropping 70 ton of scrap metal will be a completely different problem than a full 70 ton railroad propane tanker car.

Well,

Running a pump motor at max service factor will not quickly induce a failure. I know.

And, if there are no safety interlocks, ect. in the equipment that would protect from a failed motor.....................................?

I'm not sure the OP understands all the implications.

How can ever a pump motor be made to run at max service factor?

Or above.

Simply by pumping a fluid with a high specific gravity.

You can get 24/7 service factor for vertical motion of ac & dc motor, for example pumps.

Are there any thoughts about calling the motor manufacturer at all?

It is a general question. No particular motor is involved.

Yes this is the same motor we are talking about 66T EOT.

This is the one of the factor to be considerd while estimating the min. motor kW requirement as per IS : 3177

Thanx for all valuable replies..

What was the motor manufacturer's response?
