I am looking for a separately excited dc motor with following ratings: Rated power: 1.5 kW Rated Speed= 1500 rpm Rated armature voltage: 420 V Rated armature current: 15 A Rated Field voltage: 310 V Rated Field current: 3 A

I already see s problem with your specs.

1.5 Kw with a 420 volt 15 amp input.

Plus the 310 volt 3 amp field seems a bit off as well.

Actually I need a 1.5kW 1500 rpm dc motor. This motor will be used to emulate a wind turbine characteristics. So, It's torque will be controlled using a SINAMICS DC Drive. For the driver output ratings, the armature is 420 V and the field is 310 V with 15 A and 3 A current ratings. As I understand, the motor ratings should match the driver ratings. Are the specifications which I posted resonable, or there is something wrong? Please explain. Thank you

Well 420 x 15 = 6300 watts so there is one specs problem. Then add the 3 amp 310 volt stator pwoer and thats another 930 watts of power so...

you are looking for a motor that takes around 7230 watts to produce 1500 watts of mechanical output.

I think you need to read up on motors and motor drive unit ratings.

A 1.5KW DC motor should be an off the shelf item. You then configure the drive to the motor.

You seem to have

Theoretically, most normal industrial (not PMM types of course) DC motors can have the fields separated with a tiny bit of luck and skill....never done it myself though.....

Thought about it a few times as I was trained many years ago on "Ward-Leonard" Systems....Invented in 1891...

See here only if you are interested:-

It just struck me, surely a modern VFD would do this job at least as good, if not better?

What I know nothing about, but maybe even cheaper and smaller.......someone here must know!
