Future Scope of Rural Electrification Job

11/10/2012 6:22 AM

Hi everybody,

I am from India. Recently I got a job in a company where they have taken up the project of rural electrification (Electrifying the villages i.e. LT Erection). As I have no other option to start my career and Job market is very tough outside, I have decided to join the company (I am yet to join the company). The company has told me that I need to travel from village to village and a lot of traveling is required.

From my side, no matter how tough the job might be I am ready to work in any condition since I have to start my career at any cost. But my concern is only about my future scope. I am worried about only in one aspect i.e. "Traveling".

Ultimately I need to and want to settle in a stable job where no traveling is required as this job needs. Now my question is...After getting handful experience from this field (rural electrification) while working in this company for a period of 3-5 years, is it possible to switch over to another field/company (another field, in the sense, other than rural electrification for ex: manufacturing of Transformers) based on this experience in rural electrification where i can remain stable at my job? What will be my future scope?

Your future scope will be whatever you make it.

No one on this forum can see inside your brain and tell what you know or your capabilities.

Just do a good job, get a good education and advancement will come, if you deserve it.

Good luck.

It certainly is possible but nothing is guaranteed. Welcome to the real world of capitalism. A world where most workers can make a life for themselves by just using their creative skills. A world where the bold and adventurous can greatly succeed or incredibly fail. A world where only a few newbies (like yourself) accurately predict their careers when they leave school.

There are certainly many problems with capitalism. At the same time it appears to be the most effective economic system used today. Many times the problems happen when somebody is not or cannot be flexible in their life.

So be flexible and good luck in your life choices.

I think that job will stand you in good stead for a future in electrical engineering or maybe other fields. Unless you have a better alternative I would jump at it. The travelling part can only be bonus, and give wider experience.

As Lyn says your future scope will be whatever you make it, but it will be a good start.

Also your English is excellent, far better than that of some contributors from India (not that my Hindi is up to much )

Get some experience. Learn some skills. Sell that lot in 3-5 years time to the next Client.

Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions, but, what I think you are really asking is whether or not the work you will be doing on the rural electrification project will allow you to move to another position.

The answer to that will depend upon what the scope of the rural electrical projects will look like. Rural electrification can mean anything from solar powered LED lights for huts, to regional grid connected distribution systems.

A little more data on the scope of what you will be working on may allow a little blue sky crystal ball gazing to happen by the members here.
