Attention: Automotive Engineers

05/22/2007 10:45 AM

Hello, I am rather new to this amazing and informative Website. I have a design that I am in the middle of trying to complete. The enormously high price of gas started to put my mind into "GEAR" and I would like to finalize my design. So, does anyone out there know of who I should contact with my project?

Thanks for your help, Louie

Hi LOUIEGD,

Tell us a little about your design.

What does it do? What's it used for? Who will be able to use it? (5H-2W)

What impact does the "high" price of gas have to do with it?

What engineering principle(s) is it based on?

Since you emphasized "GEAR" I assume gearing may have something to do with it?

More information is needed before meaningful comments can be posted.

John

First thing to do is apply for a patent. You will need that protection no matter where your design can be used. Then there will be a lot of validation testing to prove the concept, manufacturability and cost to benefit of your design versus present designs. If this is to go into the powertrain of a vehicle durability will also be an issue. Finally there is a 3-5 year leadtime that you have to manage your cash flow through. Tell us more if you can.
