ROTARY VANE PUMP NOT DELIVER SUFFICIENT FLOW TO FEED DM WATER TO H2 GAS UNIT

11/27/2012 12:52 AM

WE HAVE A FLUIDOTECH ROTARY VANE PUMP TYPE- 2511E( HIGH PRESSURE & LOW FLOW ) IN OUR HYDROGEN GAS GENERATION PLANT, DESIGN OF PLANT IS SUCH THAT WE HAVE 2 HYDROGEN GAS GENERATION UNIT IN LINE HAVING SOLENOID VALVES IN DM WATER FEEDING LINE FOR BOTH UNIT, IF LEVEL OF DM WATER IN GENERATION UNIT DECREASE THAN THESE VALVES OPEN FOR FEEDING DM WATER TO THE UNIT & IF SOLENOID VALVE OF BOTH UNIT REMAIN CLOSED THAN DM WATER FEED TO THE BREAK TANK THROUGH LOW PROPORTION RELIEF VALVE SET TO 13 BAR PRESSURE, MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN DM WATER FEED TO BOTH UNIT AT THE SAME TIME THAN PUMP WAS NOT ABLE TO DELIVER THE REQUIRED QUANTITY TO WATER,

Your set-up leaves much to be desired. Check/troubleshoot your pump for possible solution, if it ever worked in the past without this kind of problem. If you are commissioning a new plant, then modify your design by providing two independently dedicated pumps of suitable size.

I feel your pain. Talk to the pump supplier. Find out if this model is the correct model.

You give no usable information here.

What is the Capacity of the DM Water Feed Pump ?

What is the Required Flow & Pressure to be Delivered for the Unit ?

What is the Distance Between the Pump & Plant and Head Involved?

If all the above Design parameter are satisfied then Check Whether Proportion relief valve is malfunctioning ( means at the time of water delivering any water is relieaving from drain Port).

Also Check all Suction Filters which are in Circuit.

Capacity of pump is 350 litres/Hrs, flow rate required is approx 130 to 150 litres/Hrs & pressure should be greater than 10.5 bar, as far as distance between pump & unit is concern same pump & unit is working perfectly in other line so distance is also ok, my problem is that when dm water is not feed in the any of the unit pump pressure is approx 13.5 bar but when dm water feeding start in any of the unit than pressure drop to 10.2 bar & unit itself having a pressure of 10 bar, so required flow rate is not developed as pressure diff in pump & unit is approx only 0.2 bar

If Pressure Difference occurs , what is the physical Phenomenon/problem practically you will face .

As you mentioned, Defintely when water is not fed to the unit then Pressure shows in the Pressure will be more because as the both Solenoid valves will be close, there wont be any supply of water and the Pressure directly acts on the pressure gauge.(Restriction of water flow / Back pressure )

And When the solenoid Valves are open then there will be a continous supply of water by which there is no restriction to the water which shows the pressure slightly lesser than above.

Do you have any Flow Meters in the Circuit. It is better to take Water Flow into Analysis part rather than Pressure. just Compare the Difference of the Flow.
