Energy Need to Operate a Magnetic Switch

11/27/2012 4:08 AM

MAGNETIC SWITCH

How to compute power or Force required operate a magnetic switch?

It is known that Force of attraction between two magnetic poles of opposing polarity is F = µo*µr *P1*P2/(4*p*d^2) where P1 & P2 are magnetic strength expressed in Ampere meter, and d = distance between two poles.

Which force will be more - in case 1 or 2? This is just a simple conceptual diagram. Do assume that magnetic path will be completed through the magnet and the coil. The objective is to compute energy or power (in time t) needed to break this magnetic closed loop.

"...Generator / motor design experts may have answers...", we do, and the way we got that knowledge was from doing our own homework. Here's a hint though, it's called a solenoid problem, something that you can Google for yourself, or wait for another member of CR4 to do it for you.

If you teach a Doorman to fish he will sit in the boat and drink beer all day.

Why go to all the trouble? Just use different magnet/switch combinations to find one that works. It ain't rocket science.
