ENTES Network Analyzer - Wrong Data Values

11/28/2012 8:13 AM

Hi all,

I am having trouble with an Entes MPR60S network analyzer. The issue is two-fold. First of all the device wont connect with the latest version of the readlog.exe ( PC HMI based device software to read the memory logs of the analyzer). It does connect with a older version of the software but there it does not display correct values of the KWs running. The device display and the generator controller display ( device is installed on a generator) match however when i access the logs in the device memory the values are offset by an error ( error is not constant and varies randomly). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most likely you need to update the firmware in your analyzer.

Also you need to check your PC comm port configuration settings and make sure they match they device communication requirements. (Baud, parity, MB transfer rate, etc.)

Contact the Entes technical service and they can guide you through it.

I used the new version of the ENTES READLOG.EXE and the device seems to be working fine now, tough the older versions of the software can not seem to even properly connect to the device now. What could make that happen.

The older devices normally operate on a different protocol wherein communication handshake, parity, baud, checksum, and/or bit transfer rate is different and in some cases the base computer machine language has been changed to a completely different langauge.

In some cases the manufacturer has upgraded/changed their software to be compatible with a newer Windows OS, or other operating systems and do not support older DOS-based systems.

If you are operating in a Windows OS environment it may be possible to select the "Windows xx Compatibility" or "DOS Compatibility" mode and establish communications.

The only sure way to identify what you are dealing with is to contact the ENTES technical support group and ask for assistance.

If you have administrative access and a thorough understanding of your machine OS and configuration it is possible to ID and record the ENTES communication requirements, then access control of your comm port and configure accordingly.

If operating in Windows you may have to edit your registry and/or create an desktop selectable executable instruction string that points/guides the OS through the procedure required to make your machine communicate with the older devices.

CAUTION! If you are not extremely competent in performing this function, you can cause machine operating issues that cannot be resolved!

Thanks for the detailed reply. I believe what you pointed out was indeed the case. I have been able to obtain several logs of data from the device which have been verified against instantaneous display values on the analyzer. The logs are correct and i am able to save these logs on my computer as well, which previously i wasnt able to. Moreoever when i configured the Readlog.exe for the my MPR60S ( selection of parameters) it gave me a warning message that the operation is going to affect the way device writes data to memory, after that older versions of the software have not been able to connect properly to device. Alltough i am able to get requried data from the device, i want to learn what might have caused this.
