The original cover to a superb book.

Indeed! The book was an amazing tour de force. See also Douglas Hofstadter's Metamagical Themas.

GEB was/is an amazing book. Much more mind-expanding in making me think about philosophy that any philosophy course I took when I was in college, but also expanded my thinking about mathematics and machine intelligence as well.

There are two other books I've read that struck me in a similar way. One was Roger Penrose's 'The Emperor's New Mind' which covers some similar topics as GEB, and Chet Raymo's 'The Soul of the Night' which is quite different but still looks at the universe from the viewpoint of a natural philosopher rather than as a pure scientist.

So how did you do your artwork homage? Very nicely done.

Every so often a work shows up that leaves all others in the literary dust. GEB is one such book.

That CGI? I wrote the code in POV-Ray's SDL (Scene Description Language) then fiddled with the contrast and hue using GIMP, with the book cover as a guide.

Glad you like it! A whimsical homage to be sure. Sadly Hofstadter hasn't made that wooden font generally available. :)
