12/02/2012 1:20 AM

dear all

kindly suggest a compressor having 2500-3000 psi outlet pressure working at ambient pressure. no volume or flow rate restriction there is. any manufacturer. plz recommend

Here you go

http://www.shoeboxcompressor.com/

$649 plus shipping.

Perfect since there is "no volume or flow rate restriction". (or is there some form of requirement) I assume there is no 'restriction' on what you want to compress either?

Thanks dear HEHOUND

Ihad searched your suggested site, yaa its good to watch the required compressor but all the shoebox compressors need a 85psi inlet pressure and i had to purchase an xtra compressor to full fill the requirement. Could it b possible to operate at ambient pressure and get the required pressure

It isn't feasible to go from ambient to 150 bar in a single stage. For one thing the mechanical design for such a large single stage compression ratio would be problematic; one has to allow some excess volume to accommodate valves. More fundamentally, the temperature of the air at the top of the piston stroke would be extremely elevated. I'd have to dig to recall the formula and do the calculation, but I think the adiabatic temperature for compression to 150 bar would be upwards of 1000 C. So the air has to be cooled as it's compressed.

The usual arrangement for this sort of compression is multiple stages, with intercooling between the stages. If you're looking for something small and cheap to fill paintball cartridges, just go with the Shoebox compressor and a small shop compressor.

If you're wanting to fill scuba tanks, that's a different story. The Shoebox web site mentions filling scuba tanks, and perhaps their compressor really is safe to use for that. But I'd be very cautious. A scuba tank compressor is a very specialized piece of equipment. Vapors from oil-lubricated seals in a compressor not designed for scuba can kill a diver. Not to mention the fact that bypassing the safety protocols followed at reputable dive shops can get you killed in a tank explosion.

Mr. Rao,

The pressure stated by you is very high (between 170 & 204 bar). Please search for at least a four stage compressor, which can deliver more than 2500 psi.

Regards.

i'm not sure if i understand the ?. a compressor needs a flow restriction to produce pressure. the restiction will need to be factored in.

You should consider an axial twin-screw compressor as a very efficient first stage. I am not aware of the technology used for higher, but usually this involves a series of successively smaller pistons, so yes, there is a flow restriction.
