Galing On Drill Collars Threads

do you think guys that the galling of drill collar threads may be due to poor material compsition ? could any one tell me what is the required API material compositin of the Drill Collars .?

again, not much info to go on. But I will say this, you get what you pay for. Not all drill collars are made from same material.

Make sure the grease bucket is closed with a lid when not in use. Otherwise you damage threads in no time even with the best grease on hand, when it becomes contaminated with dirt, water, metal pieces.

this gall is happeninig with n ew made connections just 2 hrs running ..many times .. we did check dop ,torque ,etc but all fingers aiming to our machine shop although rhere is a 3rd party inspetion co. which doing thread gaging...

So what does the certification say? Are all the markings on the connectors?

Did you test the make up tong? Where is the machine shop? Did they re-cut the threads? Was the correct coating applied? Dope is correct one you say?

Further is the rig aligned properly?
test make up connections in the shop and see what you get there.

You'll have to invest some time in this to get to the bottom of the problem.

Galling of steel is caused by? Come-on-I know you know it! It happens when things get out of whack such as damaged threads, or materials are of different metals or of the same hardness. I would suggest contacting your supply house for help in solving this issue. They can touch and see what is going on, we can't
