Opinion will vary. It will boil down to the local Governments vision document for the next decade or two.

I wish I could accurately predict what field will be the "best" for any engineer in any country. If I could do that I wouldn't have my annual holiday reflection and wonder for paths not taken.

an unusual question, and impossible to answer correctly. By correctly, I mean to your satisfaction giving you a way forward. The question is very 'open ended', with many answers that would be based on experiences of those answering.

Take me, I work in oil and gas, so I'd say 1. however the latest technology to be center stage is 'renewable energy'.. so you might consider that as the oil companies are struggling and jobs are not as numerous as they once were.

The only person that can give you really good, sound & solid advice on which path to take, is you!

Research your interest, apply for jobs and when in the interview, you interview them. Many people forget that an interview is a two way street.

I was offered a job with a international electrical engineering/manufacturing company and during the interview, one of the answers to my MANY questions wasn't what I expected. They offered my the job, there and then.. but I refused. but stated my objections.

So while you look for guidance as you start your life journey.... only you can decide. So I wish you all the best in whatever you decide.

It will depend on how much "career time" remains for that particular engineer. If 5 to 10 years then #1. If longer, then perhaps not necessarily.

Whatever you are good at.

Trying to palm off yourself as somebody when you are not, is an exercise in frustration and sefdelusion. Plenty of people practice it, hoping for better outcome, when the right people do it.

Yeah, right.

You left out becoming a Futurist, and compete with Mr. Kurzweil for prominence.
