I want to know which material is suitable for making a nozzle for a SA 516 pressure vessel. Can you please tell me is it safe to use same material for making the nozzle ??

It would be, if they made pipe out of it. (SA516 is plate.) You can use pipe of the same p-group as SA516. The tensile strength may be somewhat less, but this is accounted for in the nozzle/reinforcement calculations. If impact testing is required, such as for low-temperature service, some additional checking may be needed.

SA516 is a commonly used pressure vessel grade carbon steel.

If a smaller forged nozzle is desired, a carbon steel commonly used is SA105.

If the nozzle is larger, a reinforced pipe configuration is typically used such as SA 106-Grade B.

Is this the first pressure vessel you have ever designed ?

What international codes and standards have been chosen for the vessel design ?

Thank you For your reply

This is my first design and my aim is to design a suitable nozzle for the SA 516 Gr Pressure Vessel. It is a thin cylinder pressure vessel used for storing liquid chlorine in chemical industry. it is cylindrical type with ellipsoidal dish end.

So my Doubt was whether the same material can be used for making the nozzle.??

Normally, nozzle necks are pipes and pipe material for carbon steel group will be SA106.

But if you are rolling the plate to make nozzle, you can use plate material SA516 which is same as your vessel shell material.

If you are working with pressure vessels, I think you should get a copy of "Pressure Vessel Handbook by Eugene F. Megyesy".
