01/08/2013 10:39 AM

Dear friends,

Hi.
We are facing Mill puffs problem often and it causes very destructive damage to the primary air ducting. We've installed two rupture discs on primary air duct at Mill inlet but there's no significant improvement.can anybody tell me how to cop with this problem....

Transport the material as a water-based slurry, rather than as a powder.

Not sure what type of industry your are in.

If you have steam available it would be wise to install an automated "steam inertion" system wherein steam is injected into the mill and prevents ignition of the contents/material. Steam is the best choice for applications where the moisture content must be kept low.

The second option would be to install an atomized water spray inertion system that operates the same as the steam however this results in higher moisture content and could cause issues depending on your process. The moisture content can be controlled to some extent.

Another option is to inert the mill(s) with CO2 or other oxygen depleting fluid however this is usually the last option due to the high cost.

Please look at NFPA 654, 68, 69. If you are in the US, dust explosions have become a big deal due to several recent deaths. More information would be appreciated.
