Equalizing Tanks

01/09/2013 11:09 PM

Iam looking for a way to equalize 3 400 bbl water tanks that are supplied by a boiler system? The boiler system will pump (circulate) water into one tank that has a digital gauge. How would i equalize all three tanks with one guage?

Run "sluice" lines between their bottoms. (And, if they are closed tanks, vent lines between their tops.)

Where would the gauge be then? Tank 1, 2 or 3?

Furhter questions for OP:

Which one is fed by the boiler directly?

What happens when there is a difference due to temperature changes?

Why not one single bigger tank?

<...Where would the gauge be then? Tank 1, 2 or 3?...>

If the tanks were to be hydraulically interconnected as suggested in #1 above, then it wouldn't matter.

I am assuming the gauge is for temp. In which case you would pipe to all 3 tanks using a pump to circulate thru all three. With vent pipes tied in at the tops to equalize them. You would place guage centrally to determine temp. Also insulation around the tanks to minimize heat loss and around piping.

Explain a bit better what you're trying to achieve and you might get some useful replies.
