Cable Code 3c95SACASN, What Does It Mean?

01/15/2013 3:45 AM

Hi all,

I have a problem, I am developing an electrical model of a small area of the Low Voltage Distribution Network in the UK, I can decode most of the cable codes that are found on the plans, but I am struggling with the following one:

3c95SACASN

3c = three core

Any ideas what the rest stands for?

If the purpose of a drawing is to communicate, then by not having a key to the symbols and abbreviations used thereon the communication is incomplete. So get back on to the originating office for the drawing and ask for a key to the symbols and abbreviations to be provided.

In the meantime, that the 95 could be the cross-sectional-area of each of the phase conductors in square millimetres could be anybody's guess, and might not make sense in the context of its location in the low voltage network. In cablespeak, SACASN could be steel armour, copper armour, steel neutral, but that wouldn't make sense either.

Undefined abbreviations are the bane of CR4 (which is itself an abbreviation).

SAC = SOLID ALUMINIUM CONDUCTOR, ASN = ACCESS SERVICE NETWORK/AUTONOMOUS SENSOR NETWORK

thanks great answer, this makes sense, ACCESS SERVICE NETWORK/AUTONOMOUS SENSOR NETWORK are the same thing? at the end of the feeder there is a cathodic Protection Cubicle, which i am guessing is corrosion protection for the cable......
