Replace the worn-out components.

Replace all rod ends, replace the sliding coupling bell at the shaft, buy the repair kit of "the bottle", it is the gearbox that transmits motion from the steering shaft to the pitman arm.

Before you dismount the bottle, turn fully left or right, then count the exact turns to the position where you will open it and leave it right there when you're done with the kit, reverse the dismount procedure and voila ! now you really HAVE to call a mechanic.

It ain't no rocket science, you don't really need to know how, just dare and the mechanism himself is going to tell you how he works.

Hi

With the massey ferguson steering there is a little shuttle valve on top of the ram infront of the radiator, the linkage to this can get quite worn and will require replacing . Also the pivot arm that goes down through the front casting could need the bushes replacing, there is a tappered pin with a lock nut on it that links the steering to this arm and may need repairing or adjusting. It must have a small amount of movement to activate the ram that is why you need to make sure the ram linkages are ok first. If you pop the grill out you will see where the problem is when some one turns the steering wheel

I know a few tractors have the hydraulic pump running from the PTO. Also could be a clgged filter or kinked line in the siphon. Any leakage at all that you noticed?
