Longest Running Experiments

01/23/2013 10:46 PM

Something from the records of science.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_Electric_Bell

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_drop_experiment

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverly_Clock

its intriguing how long these experiments are set up and allowed to run.

The Beverly Clock is a master piece of engineering.

Please take note of the sentence: It is therefore not an example of perpetual motion.

Enjoy!

How about this,

Owen Withey, a professor of mechanics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who had the foresight to test Concrete mixes and stability and started an experiment back in 1910, and is now known as the 100 year cement experiment, He had made up so many samples that they are thinking of extending it ........

or I should say, change the name to say 150 year Cement Experiment.
