Who built the Dubai Ski Resort?

05/25/2007 8:42 PM

Looking for the name of the construction company. I heard it was Halliburton, but they could not confirm. Does anyone know?

Utilising a technique known as 'strandjacking', a section of the

slope, weighing 3000 tonnes (the equivalent of 500 elephants), was

lifted 30m into the air and connected to the main framework of the ]

ski hill structure. The completion of this phase signals a significant

landmark in the construction process of the Mall of the Emirates

project, which continues on track for opening on 3 September 2005.

The raising of the slope, which was completed over two days,

creates space for another 3,000 car park spaces and signals a shift

into the final phase of the construction of the project. This phase

will focus on internal finishes and retailer shop construction, with

several retailers already on-site and many more expected over the

coming weeks.

"This is a critical milestone in the Mall of the Emirates project and

the finish line is now in sight," commented Jeff Rossely, Group Vice

President, Development, MAFI, "It is a very significant feat of

engineering in a scheme that pushes the boundaries of mall

design in so many ways. I would like to pay tribute to all involved,

especially our specialist contractors, Al Naboodah Laing O'Rourke

and Eversendai."

"

of the structure is now visible to everyone passing the Mall of the

Emirates at Interchange 4 on Sheikh Zayed Road," says Phil Taylor,

Chief Executive, Ski Dubai, "The smooth and successful completion

of this major stage of construction is testament to the hard work

and dedication of the entire team."

When complete, Ski Dubai will hold over 6000 tonnes of snow at any

given time and will take its place in the history books as the third

largest indoor snow dome in the world, boasting such features as a

400m ski run, a permanent 3.5m radius quarter pipe for stunts, a

snowboarding park, 5 multi-directional slopes with varying slope

gradients, including a black run, and the world's largest indoor snow

play area.

I was curious myself, this piece is cut and pasted from Yahoo search.

I have been to Duba several times, the only place in the work that I have witnessed more money was the Vatican.

Got a point there.

Look at all of the real estate the Vatican owns, among other listed things.

The Catholic Church puts all of the collective Arab nations to shame in wealth.

While one can often see the asset, often it is impossible to see the liability...

Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum, was the brain behind Dubai, which was just a mere village up until the late 50's. He borrowed money from oil rich neighbors to create a port, and the rest grew from their. His son Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, is now in charge, and now it is his vision for Dubai to be the central trade location of the Middle East, it is seen as a place of extravagance and is thriving tourist location, more or less for shopping trips, places like Ski Dubai only add to its appeal for the ever growing set of people who can afford such extravagances.

All of this is supported off of the low cost labour from countries all over the world, China, Ethiopia, India, Philippines, and more. Dubai City is a company and would like Dubai to be a manufacturing centre as well but it struggles to compete with the Far East on labour costs. Conditions for people working in Dubai vary from job type many construction labours do live in containerised camps, which are cramped, but this is the norm for temporary accommodation on construction projects, where there is a housing shortage and the local market cannot support temporary housing for a couple thousand people, and that's just one project, there are thousands across Dubai.

Dubai is developing and progressing, and so to are its social, legal and political systems. There are problems with legislation on construction companies, where entire work forces have held a strike shutting down a highway as they have not been paid. But then in turn they have the power to strike.

Dubai is a love or hate place, where many cultures meet, and it is this difference in cultures which Dubai struggles with often.

Ah,

Don't forget the "Impoverished USA" where much of the more efficient and high tech mechanical equipment is being made.

Many millions have been spent around the US for components, completed equipment, and labor.

I have Expedited and Inspected a large amount of equipment right here in PA, and got paid very well.

These guys have their engineering specs in order and are easy to work with!

Don't forget the 13 trillion dollars given to Bahrain (to Sheikh Isa) and stored in International Banks for personal use (to be discovered by his son now in power - Sheikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Kalifa) - this money given by the USA was to be used for infrastructure development but has never been used to help the Bahraini people. Instead the sheikh builds race tracks and hotels for personal use.
