Area, Volume, and Hydraulic Diameter for Regenerator

02/02/2013 1:48 AM

Hello experts,

I know I am asking a very basic question but I need to confirm that during one dimensional analysis of regenerator (Pipe having matrix material), what should be the area, volume and hydraulic diameter of it? Suppose I need to calculate Reynolds number, does it mean I need to take hydraulic diameter as 'dx' as width of one dimensional cell? Does 'dx' represent area as well as volume?

Th hydraulic diameter is a FICTION Dh= 4*A/P used for similitude at the Reynolds computation. It is invented in order to allow a way to compare flows in different sections since Re= w*Dh/ν where w= flow velocity and ν= kinematic viscosity.

A is the section normal to flow area and P the total perimeter of contact flow to wall.

You should NOT use Dh for other reasons than to compute Re and the friction coefficients which depend on its value.

Yes sir, You are right but I want to know the value of diameter and volume as well as area if we are talking about a 1 dimensional domain (which is circular in shape in actual shape)
