Earthing Between Pump and Motor

02/02/2013 11:12 PM

Dear guru,

I have some doubt related with earthing of equipment, Why we have to connect earthing in 2 places for motor and for pump? why not sufficient in motor only or pump only?

what the risk if both pump and motor earthed in only in one point? as i understand both are connected through shaft so one earthing point is enough.

Please help me

The need arises from the wiring standard applicable in the country of installation, which the forum doesn't know. Reading this standard will remove all doubt, and applying it will remove all risk.

Motor and pump cant be earthed in one point, motor connected to the pump through shaft of rotor. and a rotor is rotating part that can't be solidly grounded with motor body.

other reason, if earthing only in one point... in case motor or pump is removed for maintenance. one of these equipment will not be earthed.

Too much is unknown, for an answer.

Location, power supplied, codes invoked, customer requirements, pump housing materials of construction, etc. etc. etc.

As PWSlack pointed out, not enough information.

NFPA/NEC/BS/ISO/IS/ and other standards may apply.
