Coriolis Flow Meter

02/04/2013 7:08 AM

My doubt is regarding coriolis flow meters.

This doubt is generic for all flow meters provided by Rosemount ; I am giving just one example for understanding.

For model CMF025 (Micromotion Elite series) offered, end connection is 1", 300#.

Tube size is ¼".

If end connection is 1" then from where exactly tube of ¼" is installed in flow meter?

And if tube size is getting reduced by almost 1/4th times then how come there is not much pressure drop?

In this case I am getting "P" drop of 0.003 kg/cm2 for flow of 60 kg/hr.

Agreed !!! Since I was not able to contact sales person i had to put this question over here .

I was looking forward for answer because MICROMOTION ELITE series is widely used flow meter series.

<...was not able to contact sales person...> Nonsense. Use the telephone instead of sending e-mail.

looks like you have lot of time to dig out previous forum and post offensive reply. No one is forcing you to reply ..at least not to my queries no matter how basic those are.

Micromotion Elite series coriolis sensors have a given tube size that needs to be accounted for when spec'ing the item. Keep in mind that there are actually TWO parallel tubes inside the body of each sensor, so your figure is incorrect either way- you have 2 x 1/4th the diameter of tube or 1/8th the total nominal cross section area compared to the pipe size. The input tube changes to these sizes within the large containment section of the sensor.

Unless you post the specifications of the product you are putting through it (viscosity, temperature, specific gravity- is it a different colour on Tuesdays?) no one here can help you accurately with your calculations, and you would be best to talk to Rosemount or the local rep. These sensors have an excellent turndown ratio for accuracy, and it is often more important to make sure that the complete range of anticipated flows is within the linear response range of the sensor than to match the pipe size- probably why they offer different ends for each sensor. So you have to match accuracy needs against the flow restriction of each size and find your optimal point.

So a 1/4" sensor on a 1" pipe will give you better low flow accuracy than a larger sensor, at the expense of more pressure drop under higher flow conditions. I will say that I've found their specs accurate in the past.

All flow meters provided by Rosemount are not the same.

They do have technical help available and I'd suggest that you seek it. They can teach you the basics.
