CEIG Rules in India

02/10/2013 8:51 AM

Hello fellow engineers from India

Can any one shar with me a copy of the standard CEIG rules (Chief Electrical Inspector to Goverment) - as applicable in INdia. I want to know in particular the following details

1) Upto what ampere or kVA rating of transformer or DG can I use LT cables on the 415 volts secondary side and beyond which should I use the bus ducts? (i find that there is some inconsistency betwen the rules followed in the state of Tamil Nadu and that in Andhrapradesh.

2) How do i calculate the MCOV of lightning arrestor for 11 kV application. My HT 11 kV is only three phase line ending up with the primary terminals of my trasnformer in delta connection. Should I refer my HT line as "solidly earthed system" or "unearther system". I do not know whether my incoming line from Electricity Board is earthed or unearthed. I have only three HT over head lines coming into my 11 kV dopuble pole structure. Then how do I specify my LA and how do i calculate my MCOV for the LA?

Advanced thanks for all the reply posts

Regarding your other part of the question, I have some reference and I have to locate in which folder I have saved and retrieve and post it. In the mean time you will find good response from the CR4 MEMBERS.

good morning mr.Dhayanandan,

I am from chennai and glad to see your reply. I am working for a engineering and consultancy firm in chennai. we are currently handlong a project for a client in Andra. we have a 750 kva dg set with amf panel. As far as my ubderstanding goes, i have catered for a bus duct connection from dg set to amf panel and then by 4 runs of 400 sq.mm from amf panel to DG incomer in the main PCC. While one of the leading expert electrical consultant in hyderabad and as well as my electrical contractor says that this scheme is acceptable to CEIG/ AP, the DG vendor says that CEIG calss for bus duct for the entire section since current is more than 1000 amps. I a, mot able to obtain any clearcut printed material from any of my above sources about the CEIg rules in AP. Can you kindly throw me some more light on this sir. I would be very glad if you could share with me any such guidelines of ceig/ap from your sources also sir

Dear sir CEIGs in India , from various states have rules for any electrical installation. But there are variations. Most tough rules are prevailing in Kerala and Tamil Nadu As electrical designer if you follow Kerala rules , your Design will be suitable for any state in India As far as I know these CEIGs have formulated the rules based on IE rules and IE act primarily giving importance to safety. CEIGs have not published books. But Tamil Nadu electrical contractors association has compiled all the rules based on their experience with CEIG. This book is available with them. It should also be available with C sitaraman & co In respect of cables / busduct, for tamilnadu any rating of transformer / DG set 625 kVA and above should be provided with Busduct.

Sir,

Can u also throw some light about DG stack height. I have come across various documents of CPCB giveing the details about how to calculate the height. But here again i find that these documents does not give a clear cut directive.

My question the stack height talks about individual capacity of DG sets or whether it indicates the cumalative of installed capacity of DG sets.

Thanks

Sir,

if my memory is right, you own the firm Interface electronics who are pioneers in the field of AMF panels. Am I right sir?

I remember of meeting you long long back in connection with an AMF panel for 250 KVA DG set at S.Rly head qrts office, when I working there as Junior Engineer/Electrical.
