Why is the Auto Link Not Working for Some People

02/15/2013 3:34 PM

Once again my title is rather self explanatory so with that why does the auto link work for some but not others or occasionally work then quit?

It used to work just fine for me up to around two weeks ago now it doesn't and I see a lot of other people having the same issues now.

Are we doing something wrong or did something change in the CR4 site format as of recently?

Unless I'm copying something that already is hyperlinked, I've always had to manually make my link clickable on CR4. Of course, it's entirely possible that you know more about CR4's ancient secret tricks in terms of usability that I'm unaware of, but in terms of site format, nothing has changed.

I've got one, small suggestion you might want to try if you really think something is amiss:

I've noticed the catchy phrase on the tee-shirt.

Seems as though I have heard that advice somewhere...

What I know is open the other site I want to link to copy it in entirety from the address bar ans past it here. From there it should show up as a blue high lighted link that anyone can click on and go to directly.

As of lately I am seeing that a lot of others are also doing the same thing and now its not automatically doing the auto link thing.

Relating to the hyperlink thing. That has never worked for me. Its there but its always grey instead of active like the rest of the buttons are.

  • Oh, it seems it works kinda wierd and now how expected.
  • Copy and paste the URL. (or Copy link location works)
  • Highlight the URL that you just pasted
  • At this point the Icon with the globe/chain is visible
  • Click that or Control K
  • This now gives you the opportunity to give the link an alternate name such as "here".
  • Click Submit

e.g. CR4 Aerospace link is here

Or type the full text, select the word(s) you want to link, and the globe/chain lights. Clicking it opens a box to paste the url into. (Unless you use Safari)

Lets see.

Hmm.. Oddly now its working today.

Still cant get the hyperlink button to go active. The bold, italicize, underline, and cross out work but not the next two.

The key is highlighting. Note, that initially, Bold I, U, abc Link and a few others are off. Once you highlight anything, everything is visible. You might be right that this is new behavior. Not sure. My memory leaks like a sieve.

Odd that you can't just turn on and off of Bold typing.
