ODTR Test

Dear All

I have carry out ODTR test for my optic cable at home about 20M length both splice with Fusion splicing.

my concern is after the OTDR and print out the report i am getting this value ???

below is the detail of the report result.

Feature #/type 1/N 2/E?

Location (km) 0.0912 0.1855

Event(dB) ?? ??

Event (dB-km) ?? ??out of range

Loss(dB) ???.??(2P)

Any advise.

ODTR or OTDR? You use both in your post. Presuming you mean OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), check the specs on the instrument. You are most likely testing a cable that is too short for that model. 20 meters probably falls within the "blanking pulse" area, which is why you are seeing the "out of range" results.

For the OTDR testing of F.O cable what is the minimum length of cable to be test.

Well according to this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_time-domain_reflectometer , anywhere from 0.15 meters to 15 kilometers. It depends upon the accuracy of the OTDR meter. That is why I wrote "check the specs for that instrument".

I can't Read The Frickin' Manual from here; so you are going to have to do it yourself.
