Heidi's Got A Question

02/27/2013 12:58 AM

I was wondering if there is a silicon based petroleum or if it is even possible. I think that if you were to take super fine sand and at the right temperature of heat mixed with a silicon based petroleum then you would have a pretty neat type of glass.

From the article: "High grade energy is needed to transform silicon oxide into pure silicon, to be hydrated producing the silanes."

That makes silanes a secondary energy carrier, much like hydrogen and electricity. The primary source is sunshine, for all of them.

That certainly keeps the Saudis at the top of the energy market.

Theoretically then, you could emulsify the Canadian oil sands, pump them to Tampa which seems to be the Lightening Capital of the World, pour them out in huge flats with a lightening rod sticking up out of the middle and wait for mother nature to make all the free glass you want!

We could then build glass paneled geodesic domes over all the continents and not worry about climate change or the pollution of the oceans or the fact that all the small mammals in the world are being eaten by coyotes!
