Septic Tank Set Up to Run Appliances

03/02/2013 8:27 PM

I have to install 2 1500gal septic tanks on my new property & would love to set up a system on each to run fridges and stoves or an Engine-generator? Where to find setup info?

What you feed the 2 1500gal septic tanks will determine the output.

For instance, if you own a dairy farm, the slurry washed down from the milking shed is a good start to feed to an anaerobic digester. And that's about the minimum to get started. So when it comes to crap, it's best to think BIG.

Good luck with your quest. (I'm very skeptical about feel good stories of how someone seems to get much for nothing.)

well there is a reason why it was hard to get information about those african girls..... but the only person who can make the decision on its benefits in this case is the OP.

And to do that, the OP has quite a bit to learn. That is what obtaining yeild amounts is so important.

I think your looking for the wrong item here. Septic tanks will not produce the amount of off gases your looking for. For that operation you need to make a generator system. These work much differently then a septic. Look up methane generator plants on goggle. There are many styles to choose from. Mother Earth News had one that looked easy enough to fab.

Good Luck

What your looking for is a methane digester.

you think! how about some kind of plans or set up process?

If a few girls in Nigeria can do it then here in north america it should be common place!

Yep, I think Dave...... And to start with this green energy, a good place to start is at your local government extension office, they have allot of information that they are doing and subsidizing on the larger farms. You'd be able to get a very good and simple understanding on the process. As well as yields. And the best part..... Free

But there are a few drawbacks I can see.

1.) you would have to scale it down......but this is not that big of an issue. The biggest is...

2.) with the yields.....or lack of, your initial cost may far out weight your benefits (savings) but that's for you to determine.

I'm not sure what your background or understanding is, but if you need more help, google something like 'farm methane digester', these government agentencies love good press.

Oh and by the way, welcome to cr4.

you really think the government will help ? there in bed with big corporations! You have to quote the laws before they will admit it is available! Last week discovery channel did a segment on 4 young girls in Nigeria got a small honda generator to run 36hours on 6Lt of piss! And will not pass on any information so whats the chance the government will?

Oh please, if your looking for a handout no. the government has information that we as a tax payer bought and paid for, with information that if anything at the very least point you in the right direction. And is readily available.

Did you even make an attempt attempt before you started pouting.

Now if your looking for someone to do all your leg that you should be doing yourself, go back to the couch. :/

There IS a reason it's not commonplace. And no, big oil and the government isn't heading up the top of the list.

The other day, I saw an episode of "Man Made Home" with Kevin McLeod (of "Grand Designs" fame) making "... a methane gas burner that takes his poo from the composting loo and turns it into cooking gas ..." see here http://www.off-grid.net/2012/10/08/kevins-mccloud-of-bio-gas/ - plenty more hits when one Googles this. They also added lion poo from the local zoo to Kevin's efforts. It was also mentioned that meat eating animal excretions were the best, so I hope you're not a vegetarian.

Good luck

Basically you must take the septic tank from being a storage unit and convert them to an Anerobic digester adding heat to them to covert sewage into methane which can be used as fuel for your Engine-generator now you have electricity to run your refrigerator and other appliances including lights, look for answer here at our site: http://www.chtank.us/chaps/
