ISO 9001

03/06/2013 12:15 AM

Hi,

I would like to Know the difference between ISO/TS16949:2009 and ISO 9001:2008.

If a company is certified with ISO/TS16949:2009 then can we say that the company is ISO certified company...

Thank You in Advance :)

If you want to know the difference between the norms you will have to read them.

I dont know TS16949 but it could have a complete different meaning than 9001 (most likly as why would there two norms for the same thing)

But I am pretty sure that if you are certified for an ISO norm you can call yourself ISO certified, but the norm you are certified to will have to be specified and if 9001 is asked for 16949 will not do it!

ISO 9001:2008 gives the criteria or minimum requirement for a quality management system. It can be used by any organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity.

ISO/TS16949 is used in automotive industry. So, this standard is useless for other industries

That means ISO 9001 gives general requirements for QMS and ISO/TS 16949 gives more stringent requirements to ensure the quality of product as per industry needs. More over documentation requirements also differ for ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949.

ok, so does this means that the ISO9001 is for the bigger automotive manufacturing company who assembles the parts from the OEM while the OEM themselves must be using ISO 16949 ?

or both company must be ISO 16949 certified as they both in Automotive industry ?

I just wish I was the person with the 'idea' of ISO 900X. Damn Norwegians, with just a printer have created a certification process that makes tons of money. All any of these ISO certifications did, was to 'certify' the company did a "half ass'd"attempt at documenting their process.
