What's The Importance Of Precise Component In Valves?

Are you in the business of producing valves or are you a customer trying to complain or are you the student that still learns the basics?

Whatever is more important than effective, long-term process containment and operability (rhetorical question - NNTR)?

The function of a valve is:

- close-open the flow path.

- regulate the flow via an increase or decrease of a hydrodynamic resistance offered to flow.

Both depend of the quality of surfaces and edges. The most important is those proprieties stay same a long time and that the concerned parts can be changed without the need to scrap the complete equipment if the valves are big.

Wear is the consequence of either particles impact or flow generated cavitation. Above mentioned parts should be resistant to those two sorts of loads. Unfortunately not only harness is sufficient but a combination of hardness and resilience and this is many times difficult to obtain.

The problem is that at small openings and high pressure differences fluid velocity is high and both "loads" can occur at same time. If seat is resilient low hardness in order to give a good sealing capability it has to be protected against direct flow jet with a resistance in series so that velocity will be reduced.

The other aspect is the risk of environment pollution via leaks. This should also fulfill same conditions i.e. long operational life and easy maintenance.
