Temperature Data Logger TC-08 (USB)

03/11/2013 10:35 PM

Hi

I need to use a good and inexpensive temperature data logger for temperature measurement.

I have suggested for TC-08 (usb) by few people. Have anyone use it before?

Any suggestion of some other good and inexpensive data logger??

Please advice me..

do a google search for item and you will find several companies out there that have them. Not wanting to say brand manes, but omega is one company that has them.

What is the physical application, temperature range and accuracy you are logging ?

Do you need to display temperature whilst logging and/or does it need to be handheld or can it be software based connected to PC port ? Does the application suit to use an iButton logger ?

Hi AussieBob,

Thanks for the reply.

I wanted to measure the temperature readings at some parts of the LED lamps.

I'm looking for data logger with multiple channels with display.

and I'll prefer a software based connected to PC loggers compared to handheld as most of them come with one or two channels only..

Is the 'ibutton' is a brand name??

Your prime requirement will be to use a sensor which can attach to the part of the led lamp and be in contact with the surface to be measured to obtain a representative measurement. This might narrow down your options for a logging device.

With the choice of Pt100, thermocouple, thermistor or 1-wire sensor element, perhaps 0.1mm or 0.5mm thermocouple wire in a bed of thermal paste may be the best practical means.

It is likely that an IR thermometer may give the best solution for surface temperature. Then you need to find one with output/comms for logging the data.

We use 1-wire networks for environmental and process environment logging, hooked into a PC-based SCADA application but I wouldn't utilise these or the other sensors for an accurate measurement of surface temperature where the adjacent ambient can affect the actual temperature.

The i-Button is a brand name of Dallas' (Maxim) programmable devices for temperature monitoring/logging of an environment. The i_Button, about the size of a lithium button battery, is programmed (via PC) for a mission, placed in the location to be logged, e.g. shipping container, room, etc, then retrieved and the data downloaded as text or .csv file.

Another idea, you may already own a really great data logger and just don't realize it. If you are a manufacturing plant, check your PLC software. Like Allen Bradley has a great multichannel data logger called a trend chart built into RSLogix 500 software for free. RSLogix 500 is what software you use to access AB PLCs like SLC 500, and Micrologix.

When they came out with RSLogix 5000 (PAC software for compactlogix and controllogix), they did away with free trend chart and you have to buy as a separate software. Your SCADA software might be a source too.
