Reboiler Manway Plate

03/19/2013 8:53 AM

Dear all

Glycol Reboiler having working temp. of almost 200C, small pin holes (a lot) have been created at manway plate and vapors seem coming out of it.

What i have to do now???

Should i take the size and fabricate plate of same thickness and dimensions to replace this one OR

Any sealant which will withstand at this temp.?

Currently a plate of small diameter and covered with a compound depoxy epoxy has been placed over the pin holes area, stoppage has been done but looking non sense

You don't want a suden rupture of the plate, so yes, make an accurate drawing and get the part fabricated as soon as posible.

Take buttocks protecting measures and correct that before everyone points their finger to you.

...also consider the wetted materials. If the plate is re-made in the same stuff, will it survive until the end of the economic life of the plant (rhetorical question - NNTR)? It is worth examining the materials compatibility issue carefully, partly because of the deteriorated plate, and partly because of the effect the decomposed materials have had on product quality.

While the plate is being changed, carry out an internal inspection of the vessel, and obtain a detailed report on its condition and operating recommendations, if necessary, by the Engineer/Surveyor from the company that supplies burst indemnity insurance cover at the facility.
