Dear Folks, Ais possible to cut and reweld the pressure vessel Dome twice for some repairs. Does it shorten the dome dimensions each time? do we have any ref. for this?
also can we cut n reweld more than 2 times? construction code is ASME 8 Div 1.
Yes it is possible to cut and reweld a pressure vessel multiple times. Depending on how it is cut and rewelded, there might be some change in dimensions.
Not knowing more of your specific situation, I will not advise whether this is an acceptable practice. Take any advise on this forum with a lot of caution. This type of work can be extremely hazardous to the plant long term.
I am sure (and I hope for your sake) people more knowledgeable than I will reply to this post!

If it is a pressure vessel, then it will be on the facility's General Register for periodic routine assessment for the purposes of burst indemnity insurance cover. So the first person to talk to is the Engineer/Surveyor for the company providing that cover, in particular the individual that carried out the last two or three inspections. That individual's name will be on the insurance assessment repoer in the General Register. Get a copy of the inspection records, a copy of the as-built drawing for the equipment, then pick up the phone, talk to that individual in depth, and go from there with that individual's recommendations.
