1.3 Butadine

04/02/2013 1:28 PM

Can anyone suggest me the safe distance

For 1.3-Butadiene storage tanks according to the NFPA code/standards.

I have four (4) 1.3-Butadiene storage tanks and i have to place them appropriately in the equipment layouts .

What should be the safe distance to locate them in the equipment layouts according to the NFPA standards, also which standard to consider.?

I have to also consider the walls and other equipments in between.

Suggest me the safe distances considering all the parameters according to the NFPA standards.

Regards,

Shrikant.

NFPA 30, Buy it and read all the sections that apply to your situation.

You should have your own copy of the fire codes and not ask others to do your work for you.

How will you justify this if someone is injured?

Will you just tell them that CR4 said 50 feet would be OK?

There may be others here willing to take this risk, but not I.

IF the NFPA codes apply to your location then you need somebody trained if not licensed in using the codes. If you choose the NFPA codes because you do not know which local codes should apply, hire a consultant. If you know that no local codes apply and you choose the NFPA to comply with some standard then buy the code and I would recommend taking a certificate class because the codes are confusing.

The most important and relevant information is contained in the preface of the above document which states that "...It is not intended to serve as a substitute for in-depth training or specific handling or storage requirements... It is not intended to be a "how-to" manual, nor is it a prescriptive guide. All persons involved in handling and storing butadiene have an independent obligation to ascertain that their actions are in compliance with current federal, state and local laws and regulations and should consult with legal counsel concerning such matters..."

Translation: this is a job for experts, and not for a bunch of strangers on a web-site.
