Fiesta Boot Lock Diagram

04/04/2013 9:39 AM

Hi,

My continuing saga with the troubled Fiesta boot lock.

Does anyone have a diagram of the boot lock mechanism in a 2001 fiesta flight?

Is this it ?

If so then follow these instructions....

"Opening the lining of the sedan's boot, you will see wires controlling the boot lock. One press on your wireless fob, unlocks, another press pops it open. Same happens when you press the button bellow the handle of the boot.

All "by wire", the button sends a signal to the computer, the computer pops the boot. No cables or mechanical handle to open the boot."

You might have a manual bypass .....No guarantee here, found this at just ask....

"unfortunately the only way to release the boot mechanism is by folding down the rear seats and then punching a hole through the plastic cover in the latch. You can then release the latch with a screwdriver. The plastic cover is available separately if the fault is not in the latch, or it comes with the latch if you need to replace the latch.

Above is a diagram to show where to make the hole.

Once you've made the hole put in the screwdriver and move to the left as indicated by the arrow. If you reuse the latch make sure the return spring is refitted correctly.

The Ford number for the plastic cover is(NNN) NNN-NNNNwhich you can obtain from your local dealer.

Once the tailgate is open check if the latch will operate, if it doesn't then you need to make sure it is been powered when you operate the switch or the remote fob, if it is then the latch is at fault, if it isn't been powered then check the exterior release switch for signs of water ingress.

From your description I would say that the latch has failed internally.

If this car was sold recently in the U.S., I think it is required to have a manual release inside the trunkboot. 'Course, if we're calling a boot, it may not be U.S.

This looks to be my only option.

Hi SolarEagle,

My boot (tailgate) or whatever you want to call it is locked and as such I cannot carry out an attempted opening as you have described. This is a photo of the lock assembly as best as I can manage under the present conditions, i.e. it's locked:

Any further advise would be appreciated. This reason I wanted a diagram of the lock assembly is that a possible way to open the darn thing is to just undo the screws that you see in the photo and see what happens, however, if it falls apart I have no reference for putting it back together.

OK let's try something, if you haven't already done this, try removing the central locking fuse, this might be fuse 8 in the fusebox....now try key to manually unlock.......(the theory here is that the lock is immediately re-locking after release.)

Hi,

I am sure my fiesta was put together from leftover bits. Fuse # 8 is described as the central locking fuse, however, not in my car. I removed it, but the central locking still worked. I broke the inline connector to the release mechanism, so now it is electrically isolated; still the lock wouldn't open.

I removed the screws in the photo, which allowed me to pull upon the metal rod that links a plastic bit to the actual lock. This released the lock, yeha!!! After opening the lock i then put the key in and attempted to turn it, but it would not turn. It made no difference weather the lock was in the closed or open position. So, based on that I think that I need to replace the barrel of the lock.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

Hello. The whole loom in my Ford fiesta 1.4 TDCI 2010 got cut and I fixed everything except the lock. Could you help me out by telling me the functions of each of these 4 wires? I know that the black/yellow one goes to the button on the tailgate handle. What about the remaining 3 wires?

Thank you.

'Fiesta Boot Lock'

sounds like a mechanism used to change the elevation of a multilingual (German/Spanish) party yacht when it is traversing a canal.
