The main purpose of short circuit test is to demonstrate the thermal ability and ability to withstand the dynamic effects,Just refer IEC 60076-5.

Anonimous 1 gave you the site that explains it for you.

Basically, this test enables you to calculate different characteristics values for the transformer, by just doing this test.

1st question....do you know how to do the test(short circuit/Impedance test)...if you dont know let me know and I can explain

this test is done to determine if the Transformer will be able to take full load current

...100% of what it is rated and sometimes it is taken up to 130% of full load

Example a 132/22kV Transformer 20MVA:

HV full load current(100%)=20000/132/1.732=87.5Amps

LV full load current(100%)=20000/22/1.732=525Amps

Greetings

To know what would be the short circuit current supply capability of the transformer, in real life situations (i.e.) when a worst short circuit occurs at the secondary terminals of the transformer, with rated voltage available at the primary.
