A search engine

Do a google search from your own location for "Massey Ferguson Tractor Model 165 power steering conversion kit"

1. Pump, 2. Cylinder Mounting Plate, 3. Steering Cylinder, 4. Fluid Tank, 5. Steering Arm Link, 6. Supply Hose, 7. Pressure Hose, 8. Return Hose.

See what's required,...... which is what you're currebtly doing, and visit a salvage yard that has farm implements or implement dealer to keep an eye open for you.

Keep an eye on auction can help also

What about autonomous control?

But where's the farmer?

There is a good chance that the 165 had an optional power steering offered. Therefore, another way to equip your machine with the same would be to check tractor wrecking yards for the same model that has power steering and purchase the appropriate bits.

This is a probably a better way to go because you end up with a system that was designed into your tractor so it will be documented in parts and service books when you need parts in the future. It should also be a lot less costly than purchasing new parts to retrofit a power steering system, unless you find a used parts place that is real proud of their 40+ year old used parts stock! Another avenue is to find a non-running "parts tractor" that has the stuff you want left on it. Google, Kijiji, Craigslist and similar websites are your places to start to look. There are also forums on the subject of old farm equipment where you could ask other people with the same equipment about parts sources. Google will find them for you.

What puzzles me is the fact that your machine does NOT have power steering. I have a 1959 MF202 which is the industrial version of the MF135. I also have a MF180 of about the same vintage. They both have power steering. Where are you located? Maybe MF decided that some parts of the world had stronger farmers who didn't need power steering?

Jon.

Hi

This depends on wether you want to replicate the original or go after market. the original uses a ram bolted on to the housing in front of the radiator (manual steering uses same housing) which is activated by a link from the steering arm. So it uses all the same bits that you have plus the ram and maybe a different upper crankarm (some manuals had a simpler arm some had the power assist arm). Note the power steering on the originals is a power assist that is it assists the manual steering works Ok. But on the 275 and later they have a full power steering hydraulic steering control over a ram. Some tractors have the power steering in the the steering box different to a hydraulic steering control.

Advantages and disadvantages fitting a original ram if you can find a 2nd hand one is simple and will work as long as the bushes in the front housing are in very good order and lower crank arm is not slogged on the spline. after market kit like the one in the thread will bolt on and work, might cost a bit more. later steering of a 275 or similar are good as well.
